KL Fashion Week 2017 - Part 2 – AirAsia Runway Ready Designer Search 2017
AirAsia Runway Ready Designer Search 2017 was back again this time for the third season with an expansion of talent search across all 10 Asean countries; Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia as well as from Malaysia to provide a platform for young aspiring designers from around the region to showcase their talents and help catapult them into the fashion industry.
Limkokwing Students Recognized as South East Asia’s Best Young Designers!
Our university is amazing because on campus everyday they are new people to meet and new accomplishments taking place. At the recent Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week, one of the highlights (if not the highlight) of the week was the Air Asia Runway Ready Designers Search which sought to bring South East Asia best young talent to the fore and launch new collections and new opportunities on the massively influential Fashion Valet online store.
It was truly an inspiring show to watch but more importantly, we couldn’t be more proud that Limkokwing dominated the competition! A panel of industry heavyweights including Founder of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week, Andrew Tan, CEO of Air Asia Aireen Omar and Fashion Valet’s darling Vivy Yusof, travelled to all 10 ASEAN countries and combed each nation to find two worthy representatives that would fly to Kuala Lumpur to show, and hopefully win a ridiculously hot prize package, including the opportunity to launch their very own label with a grant of RM25,000 and a guaranteed space to retail on fashionvalet.com, obviously one of South East Asia’s most dynamic startups reaching millions of people. Limkokwing is the only university with such a presence throughout ASEAN with companies in 30 countries and we couldn’t be more proud of our 3 finalists Malaysian Phynix and Cambodian Leach and Kong who were recognized to be the countries best. Each had their own personalities and brought their own flavors and their characters to the country’s runway which we all felt was an unbelievable proud and brave moment.
The competition was super extreme because KL’s luxury retail destination landmark Pavilion was flooded with people looking to see who next year’s hot name would be. Ultimately Tran Thi Tu from Vietnam won but our boys put up a strong light, with the judges buzzing with praise for all 3.We can’t wait to see what these boys have in store and we are still proud that we retain our position as South East Asia’s most profile design university! We think it was a super tough competition with ASEAN’s best 20 young designers judged by a panel 20 industry names. Congratulations to the designers.
